In the past I have excelled in writing and I am very good at giving detailed descriptions. I excel at getting my point across and in a vivid manner. I enjoy using colorful adjectives and descriptions. I feel like this brings life to the paper and allows my personality to show through my work. However, sometimes this leads me to repeat myself and I often tend to ramble. This leads me into writing too much and saying a lot of things that basically have the same meaning but are just worded slightly different. I love writing and varying my sentence lengths and structures. When asked to explain something, I am usually on track and able to give step-by-step instructions or details accurately.
Another one of my strengths is that it is not hard for me to write a lengthy paper, and once I start writing I cannot stop. I really go the extra mile on details and descriptions. Writing a long paper or research paper isn’t a struggle for me because I get enjoyment out of writing and excel in proper use of transitions and the capability of making my words, sentences, and paragraphs flow together.
My weakness as a writer is that my grammar isn’t always correctly used. I often am confused on when to use a semi colon, colon, and maybe even occasional commas. Also, my subject verb agreement isn’t as strong as I would like it to be. I am not the best speller and sometimes the spell checker doesn’t pick up certain errors because they are real words just used in the wrong manner.
Another weakness of mine is that sometimes I struggle knowing whether or not what exactly should and shouldn’t be cited. This is a major problem because some things that you make think is common knowledge and doesn’t need to be cited may actually need to be. I also struggle with in text citations and knowing exactly what type of information I need to put in the citation such as author, publisher, etc. I am unsure of what specific information is necessary and required and where exactly to put it.
I would like to improve my grammar and citing skills and plan on developing better knowledge in these areas through peer editing, and looking up more information about citing on websites online. I hope I learn more about grammar through this course through examples, projects, assignments, and editing. I will have to pay close attention during all of this so that I way I can assure that I learn how to strengthen my weaknesses. As for citing, hopefully my teacher or the writing support team will be able to assist me if necessary or even a fellow classmate.
I hope this course will help me improve as a writer because it is a small class so I should be able to become comfortable enough to ask for help when needed and learn about others and learn by their mistakes and also tricks to writing well. Also, since this is a seminar I will become welcomed to my new home here and this will allow my creativity and knowledge to expand and develop.
What strikes me about this piece is that there is so much going on, so much detail, and on such a small surface. The nails aren’t even that large at all, yet the design is so intense and detailed. The colors seem to create vivid, strong, and bold emotions. I first came upon this when I was looking up designs to do on my nails for prom and was just startled by how someone can fit so much detail on a single nail. I love how the nails are all themed like cards, but each individual nail is it’s own and has a different pattern. This creates like I said before a fun, bold, creative, sassy mood. It makes me want to go out and have fun. I think the designs on these nails deserves to be called art because it is amazing how all of these different yet similar designs can cover such a small surface. It is amazing how the nails actually look like cards and a casino game. To me this is cool, because it isn’t your typical pink or orange manicure. It is sassy and daring and the fact that some one was able to create such a design truly amazes me.
